In accordance with their mutual desire to develop a closer academic relationship, Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and Faculté de droit, Université de Montréal hereby enter into the following agreement to promote academic exchange and cooperation.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1. To facilitate interchange of faculty and to promote collaborative research.
2. To create opportunities for students at each School to develop and strengthen a bilingual and bicultural understanding of Canadian legal institutions.
3. To promote comparative research in civil and common law at the two institutions.
4. To facilitate cooperation between the Centre de recherche en droit public de l'Université de Montréal and the Research Centre on Public Law and Public Policy of Osgoode Hall Law School.
Each institution will make best efforts to welcome visitors from the other law school on sabbatical or other leave, and will attempt to invite colleagues from the other school to serve as visiting professors as resources permit from time to time.
The two Schools will make best efforts to develop programmes for accepting students from each School to study at the host School for credit towards a degree at the home institution. As well, the Schools will consider the possibility of developing programmes for the granting of the York degree in common law and the Montréal degree in civil law for students whose principal academic base is in either institution.
RESEARCH CENTRE COOPERATION
The directors of the two research Centres in the two institutions will make best efforts to develop opportunities for collaborative projects involving the two Centres, to the extent that resources permit and to the extent that shared interests may suggest that such collaboration may be fruitful.
The two Schools will more generally assist each other in the development of all possible means of collaboration and interchange.
The present Agreement would come into force on _______ and continue from year to year unless either School, by written notification, indicates its intention to withdraw from the Agreement at the end of the current year.
After a period of five years, the two Schools will assess the degree of success enjoyed by their programme of mutual exchange and cooperation and determine whether the Agreement is to be renewed.
